Sentinel; original painting by Joe Don Brave.
The Sentinel of the prairie. A bull bison watching over his herd. I realize I paint bison often, but I have the opportunity to see them during different seasons and times of day. cold at noon or scorching at 5pm, each time and season offers a different view of these majestic animals.
Another variation of a bison, from the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. Living near the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve near Pawhuska, Osage County, Oklahoma, I have the opportunity to visit the preserve often, observing the bison during all seasons and times of days. I treat the bison like Van Gogh treated haystacks, each season and different time of day brings different light, weather, shadows, events and I use these differences to create paintings of the animals that are truly remarkable! I love to watch the bison, and I love to paint the bison! The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve has 3000+ herd of bison, running free on 30,000 acres, and is located near Pawhuska, in Osage County, about 71 miles from Tulsa.
24" x 30" acrylic on canvas original painting.
