Summer Heat. Print of an original by Joe Don Brave. Available in four sizes.
Summer on the Prairie is hot. And the bison at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, as their ancestors around Pawhuska, stay in the valleys near the creeks during the heat of the day. But once the sun starts to lower, and reaches sunset, the bison move out of the nooks and crannies of the prairie to graze the grass higher up. They move as a herd, eating as they go, moving almost all night, resting, nursing, eating. And this painting came about one day after I had been on the prairie, to see the bison moving to the grass on the hills. A beautiful sight to see, with the elder females leading the way, young babies still with their mother, and the yearlings, stretching their "wings" testing the distance they could go from the herd. If you get a chance, when the bison are grazing - go watch them. Park the car, turn the engine off, open the windows and just watch! **Don't get out, that's not allowed, for your safety.**
The small prints make great gifts for birthdays, holidays, house warming and graduations.
